Good decisions lead to good outcomes. Good outcomes create good days. Days are the bricks from which your life is built.
In general, good decisions require a number of key things:
Information: to have all of the relevant pieces of information that support your decision making.
Definition: to have a clear definition of your target, your requirements and your timeline.
Understanding: to clearly comprehend the likely impacts of your decision.
Even when you have all of the relevant information, you have defined what differences you want your decision to make, and you understand the likely impact, there can be many more barriers to your decisions to make the difference that you want them to.
Most of the time decisions make no difference without being followed up with actions. Decisions without positive actions are dreams. It’s the barriers to action that hold most people back. There are four key categories of barrier:
Motivation: the required motivation to take action is often greater than just the desire for the targeted outcome. Overcoming fears is often the biggest challenge to taking action.
Beliefs: we can have empowering (positive) beliefs and toxic (negative) beliefs. Challenging and ultimately removing our negative beliefs is a foundation for positive action and positive results.
Habits and addictions: there are good habits and bad habits. Building good habits and replacing your bad habits is another key element of building your best life. An addiction is always bad as, by definition, it is a dependence. Dependency restricts your freedom to made good decisions and to take positive action.
Resources: energy, time and money are the typical elements that prevent someone from taking the action they need to as a result of a decision.
It’s through understanding our barriers that we can overcome them. By working with the specific techniques available to us we can move forward towards our defined outcomes.
