One of the greatest skills we can learn is how to let the many minor challenges that we face in life wash over us. It’s very easy for us to be overcome by what, in essence, are minor issues, incidents, problems, frustrations and setbacks.
To be able to witness and experience life’s vicissitudes without allowing them to cloud our minds and our moods we need to consider our perspective. We feel the impacts of these episodes based on how we see them and how we allow them to upset us, and not based on the real impact on our progress through life.
Clearly, not all challenges can be dealt with by a shift in mindset, but it is surprising how many can be. Maintaining a healthy perspective on the day-to-day helps us both return to equilibrium after something which has not gone as we would have liked and help us deal with the anxiety of a trial yet to come.
Although different techniques work for different people it is worth setting time aside each morning specifically for examining or resetting our perspectives. Whether focusing on what really matters most to us, practicing gratitude or asking ourselves “what will I think about this in twelve months time?”, finding ways to gain perspective is the key to managing many of life’s tumultuous times.
In itself, putting that time aside each day in order to consider the things on our minds with a new perspective makes a difference. For many of us, it can help us overcome our challenges so that we are not overcome by them. It’s a habit that can help maintain our focus so that we continue to build our happier lives.
